It seems that Spain is up on a
plateau and upon entering Portugal it was all down hill (literally). There were
some very decent descents as we threaded our way down to the coast.
Arrived in Porto. Very picturesque
and had a great seafood lunch on the river promenade. Then it was back to the
hotel for a well-earned rest. Dinner was excellent. Portugese soup followed by
a veal steak medium and it was really good.
9th October 2013 –
Porto to Lisbon via Fatima and Oribos.
So amazingly out of bed of early
again this morning and off to Fatima.
That was incredible. Talk about
the Bunnings of religious artifacts. It was unbelievable. Crass commercialism
of the highest order. From an atheists perspective totally forgettable. I would
have happily traded that for another two
hours in the Prado for that waste of time.
Then on to Oribos which is a
quaint little town that apparently was the dowry of the Portugese Queens. Again
two hours here which I would happily have traded for the Prado.
On into Lisbon which is where we
are now. It is amazing that in these so called 5 star hotels everything costs
extra (7 Euros for 24 hour internet access- 10 Euro to use the pool. What the?)
So another day in Lisbon tomorrow
and then onto Seville (back to Spain).
